Unsuk Chin’s music has been described as suspenseful, chilling and full of unexpected soundscapes. Returning guest conductor Dima Slobodeniouk led the Minnesota Orchestra in a program that opened with Frontispiece, a brief composition that Chin describes as “a time lapse… of the history of music,” composed of tiny musical fragments and gestures. The program also included W.A. Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, performed by violinist Baiba Skride, and a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s complete Firebird ballet, a 1910 work that revolutionized orchestral music.
